To everyone who's downloaded and played the demo, thank you very much for all your positive feedback!

I've been hard at work on Act 2, and doing some re-work on the engine to improve performance

Changes so far

*Friction increased from .4 to .6
*Shell Casings
*Jump Height adjusted slightly
*Grab hook zone enlarged

Changes yet to be done

*Act 1 level revamps
*Square Particles
*Monster SFX Re-recordings
*Tint/Shade Adjustment of Green Tiles

I've also discovered that Spezy is incompatible with Windows Vista. This is beyond my control because the software I'm using to make this has its own constraints and compatibility issues with Vista. Grr Grr Grr.

Screenshots and MP3's soon to come.

-Amon26

<lj-embed id="1" />
In the Old Testament of the Bible, it is said that god created the world in six days and on the seventh day he rested. But I think Japan was cooked up on the unofficial eighth day (qxivpturday) when god had awoke from a fever dream and decided to pluck it from his third eye, roll it between his fingers till it became a long snake of ethereal clay, and gently tuck it into the ocean off the coast of china. He said "Let there be Japan." And from this tiny island erupted the largest, self perpetuating acid trip ever to be witnessed. And god said it was good.

If the above video doesn't convince you of this, I don't know what will.

More news tues. I smell a demo coming from the vents. Can ya smell what the Amon is cookin?

-Amon26

Act one is nearly completed! I've programmed in all the smaller details I wanted, like a 1-up blinker when the player collects enough Mondo-Watts (read: coins) and a few other audio effects have been thrown in. I'm still dabbling with the monsters voices and I think that, after a couple experiments, I've found the method that I'm going to stick to.

Tonight, over at the tree house I got some musical work done for the boss-battle. I'm pretty happy with how it came out even though it does sound very different than the stage music. Hectic, makes you feel you're in a hurry!

Here's a marquee, maybe it'll show up in the final product or maybe I'll replace it. Either/or, I just love my helmet-penguin too much not to share with you this goodie

-Amon26

The red one at the bottom is called a "Kechapo" and the black squealy looking things are called "Zags"

At this point I have most of the standard functions of the game figured out, points, lives, bosses, movement mechanics and all that sort of thing. Now comes all the work where I get to fill in the game content (i.e, more monsters, levels). Oh yeah, and some cut-scenes which I'm still struggling a fair bit on how to execute, but I have a few theories I'm playing with.

I can't help but feel I'm making more work for myself than I really need to, but idle hands are blah blah blah as they say.

I might upload an mp3 of act 1's BGM too. The music turned out a lot more fun than I had anticipated! Very upbeat and videogamey.

Jump! <lj:music>Nine Inch Nails- Year Zero</lj:music>

So, first post. If you didn't take a look at my profile let me give you an overview of what this is: Amon26_VG, VG being short for "Viral Games" is a Live Journal I've set up as both a personal and public record of my attempted progress at creating a series of small, fun freeware PC titles for Windows using a development tool called Game Maker.

My current work in progress is titled "It's Spezy: In the Kingdom of Mondoland". It's a small, 3 chapter side scrolling platform/shooter that is reminiscent of 16 bit era games such as Super Mario World, or Contra. My goal will be to release this by early July and hopefully publicize it and subsequent projects on indie-game networks around the internet.

As for me, I am a 24 year old freelance graphic designer located in southwestern Michigan, I have been involved in the production of promotional material, film posters and dvd cases, album covers and merchandise catalogs. I'm also an amateur musician, programming electronic music on an FL-Studio machine. I currently have a myspace account titled Amon26+H.U.D. In the future I plan to publish several short children's books and if given the time and resources, co-produce a science fiction serial yet to be titled.

Anyways, stay tuned for all sorts of screenshots, bits and blurbs. I'm having a lot of fun doing this and once I get some results out to you who read this, I hope you have just as much fun playing it.

Thanks for reading
-Amon26
